The already tense situation between Iran and Israel has escalated further, with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, firmly rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s demand for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.” In a recent televised address, Khamenei warned that any U.S. military intervention in the conflict would result in “irreparable damage.”
“Intelligent people who know Iran, the nation, and the history of Iran, will never speak to this nation in the language of threats. The Iranian nation cannot be surrendered,” Khamenei stated, as reported by The New York Times. This was his second public appearance since Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian soil. Khamenei’s remarks were reportedly delivered from an underground bunker, where he has relocated with his family due to security concerns.
Responding to Khamenei’s statement, President Trump simply said, “I say good luck.” Trump had previously hinted at a possible strike on Iran and confirmed knowledge of Khamenei’s location, though he added, “We are not planning to eliminate him — at least for now.”
Global powers are closely monitoring the situation, fearing a broader regional conflict. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other regional players have urged de-escalation. The conflict is at a critical juncture, with Khamenei refusing to yield and Trump signaling potential further escalation.
Iran has warned it will defend itself “with full force” against Israel’s “war of aggression.” Khamenei has transferred key powers to Iran’s Supreme Military Council, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
